More than 1200 people attending this year’s annual Cajunfest event May 24 at Amber Falls Winery & Cellars, plus 16 generous event sponsors, showed that “going Cajun for a cause” can make a difference to the Boys & Girls Club of Maury County. Through the successful event, Amber Falls Winery was able to present a $15,000 check to the Boys & Girls Club on July 8.

“We are so grateful for the continued support we receive from Amber Falls,” said Chris Poynter, Executive Director of Boys & Girls Club of Maury County. “A lot of hard work and planning go into making this event successful, which enables Amber Falls to make this contribution possible. They have been staunch supporters for years, and it makes a big difference for our organization and the young people we serve.”

“We’re honored to be able to help raise funds for an organization like Boys & Girls Club,” said Tim Zaunbrecher, who owns the winery with his wife Judy. “We believe firmly in their mission of enabling area young people to reach their highest potential and to become successful citizens. And we are grateful to everyone who attended Cajunfest and to the sponsors that made it all possible.”

Sponsoring Cajunfest this year were: Platinum sponsors Lucas Chevrolet/Cadillac of Columbia, TN and Syndacor, Inc. of Franklin, TN; Gold-level sponsors B & B Race Cars and Hohenwald Recycling, both in Hohenwald, TN; Silver-level sponsors People’s Bank in Hohenwald, Heritage Automotive, Lawrenceburg, TN, Hampton Inn, Columbia, TN, Nissan Trading Corp. of the Americas, Smyrna, TN, FastPace Urgent Care Clinic, Brentwood, TN, CB&S Bank, Russellville, AL, and International Assurance of Tennessee, Franklin; and Bronze-level sponsors State Farm Insurance, Hohenwald, Citizen’s Bank of Lewis County, Cook’s Pest Control, Shelbyville, TN, Farm Credit Mid-America, Louisville, KY, and Hillbilly Liquors & Wine, Hohenwald.

According to The Wine Enthusiast magazine, wines that score between 98 and 100 are “the pinnacle of quality,” and the Cabernet Sauvignon produced by Amber Falls Winery & Cellars of Hampshire, TN has reached that pinnacle. With its near-perfect score of 98, Amber Falls’ Cabernet Sauvignon earned a Double Gold Medal at the 2014 San Francisco International Wine Competition held June 20-22.

More than 4,500 wines from around the globe were judged at the 34-year-old International Wine Competition, one of the largest wine competitions in the world. Three other wines submitted by Amber Falls were awarded Bronze Medals.

“We’re extremely pleased to have this recognition of our wines,” said Tim Zaunbrecher, owner of Amber Falls Winery & Cellars, located south of Nashville. “Winemaker Pat Cluchey works hard to create wine that pleases our customers’ varied palates, and to see that his efforts have been recognized in a tough competition such as the San Francisco International Wine Competition is especially gratifying.”

In addition to the medal awarded to the Cabernet Sauvignon, two other dry reds and a fruit wine produced by Amber Falls earned medals. Receiving Bronze Medals in the competition were the 2012 President’s Choice Syrah; The Journey, a 2011 red blend of Merlot, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the 2013 People’s Choice Blackberry.

“We thought from the moment we received the grapes, as well as during fermentation and each stage of the wine-making process, that this would be an exceptional wine,” said winemaker Pat Cluchey. “What we didn’t know was that the judges would agree so wholeheartedly.”

“We’re happy that each of the dry red wines we entered in the competition was an award winner,” Zaunbrecher said. “There is, among some people, a misconception that Tennessee excels only in the production of sweet wines. Excellent wines of all kinds are produced here in Tennessee, and awards such as these are validation of that and a tribute to the creativity and hard work of winemakers across the state.” Amber Falls Winery & Cellars is one of four wineries included on the Natchez Trace Wine Trail and is just off the Natchez Trace Parkway.

As a Double Gold winner, Amber Falls’ will be featured among the top medal winners in the September issue of The Tasting Panel magazine.
